Aren’t agate slices fun? Especially the ones with the crystals in the center. This druzy agate piece will be in the April 2011 issue of Bead Trends magazine. When my husband brought home the mail yesterday, I noticed I had received an unexpected package from Fire Mountain Gems. I opened it up, and there was a copy of Lapidary Journal’s Jewelry Artist magazine. On page 2 I found a full-page ad featuring “Faerie Carnivale,” my 2010 silver medal prize winning piece! While some were born with a silver spoon in their mouth, I was born with a pencil in my hand. In fact, when I was a toddler, I even had my own word for pencil: "beebaw." Or was it "meenot"? Yes, my special language confused my family too! Thus began my creative journey, from writing and illustrating my own books with crayons and Red Chief tablets (I'm dating myself!), to wielding a calligraphy pen, a sewing needle, a crochet hook, a paintbrush, a few thousand flower stems, and now a pair (or 10) of Wubbers jewelry pliers.
